The Emergency Department provides 24-hour care for persons requiring immediate or urgent assessment, diagnosis and treatment for injury and/or illness. There is a 24-hour helicopter service available and there are helipads on 5 First Nation reserves and 5 district communities.

The Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation was established in 1992 and is governed by an eleven member board and has two employees. Within the board are Finance, Executive, Governance and Publicity committees which meet monthly, in addition to our monthly board meetings. Since its inception, the Foundation has raised over $15 million for the Lake of the Woods District Hospital (LWDH). LWDH was constructed in 1929 and has received many additions and renovations over the years. LWDH currently houses over 500 staff in addition to the services from 32 doctors and 18 specialists. It serves a population of 25,000 for primary care and 90,000 for secondary specialist care. During the summer months, these numbers increase to 70,000 for primary care, and 150,000 for secondary care. The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care provides on average, 80% of our hospital’s operating costs. This limited funding for healthcare equipment increases the financial pressure for our hospital; this funding does not cover capital expenses. The funds raised by LWDHF allow our hospital to maintain the high level of quality healthcare that their patients expect and appreciate. "We can fix it all" Mobile Marine has been a part of the Lake of the Woods community for 40 years. Our shop originally started with one full time mechanic and shortly after the upholstery unit was added. From there the business grew into a bigger building with 20 acres of secured land that currently staffs 5 full time mechanics and 3 full time upholsterers. ​ We are open year round and can provide storage, pickup, delivery, parts, upholstery and motor repairs.

Lake of the Woods Speedway is located at 556 Jones Road in Kenora, Ontario, near the Weyerhauser Mill, approx. 3km south of the bypass and 3km north of Hwy 17. The Speedway is a semi-banked, 1/3 mile Clay/Dirt Oval that host 4-Cylinders, Pure Stocks, WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds in the summer (weekly) and Sled Races in the Winter. We also host WISSOTA Modifieds on Season Opener and on our Two Day Dinner Jacket Classic Series!
